Regular Meeting - Art Liestman: Therming

July 31, 2019

Art Liestman is an internationally known turner from Coquitlam, B.C., who has demonstrated carving, decorative embellishment, color and texture, hollow forms, multi-axis turning and therming. Art returns to OPCAAW to demonstrate for the fourth time with this month's meeting (his first demonstration for us was back in 2002).

Tonight's demonstration on therming focuses on the construction of jigs and how to use them to turn multiple curved surfaces on wood blanks.  This is a variation on multi axis turning in which the axis of rotation does not lie within the blank being turned. The concept is understandable by all, but this technique is challenging and should only be attempted by more experienced turners.

In addition, the meeting will feature announcements, Show and Tell and the wood auction. Members will also have access to our library and to sandpaper and CA glue sales.

Gathering starts at 6 p.m. Announcements begin at 6:30.
