Meeting online via Zoom - Dennis Belcher: A Board into a Vase + Tune Your Lathe

June 30, 2021

The regular monthly meeting of OPCAAW will feature a demonstration by Dennis Belcher, a North Carolina based woodturner.

Belcher will demonstrate how you can use a basic segmented turning approach to transform a board into a flower vase. His article on the subject appeared in the Februry 2021 edition of American Woodturner.

Belcher will also include a discussion of how to Tune Your Lathe. He will walk us through each component of the lathe and explain how they should be maintained for smooth turning. He will talk about which parts of the ways should be lubricated and which should not; how to avoid and fix tailstock issues; proper care of the banjo; sources of vibration and wobble and their cure, and other maintenance issues.

Belcher shows his work in two galleries in Wilmington, N.C. and is a frequent demonstrator regionally and nationally.

OPCAAW members can start signing on for our Zoom meeting as early as 5:30 to socialize. President Brad Stave will make club announcements starting at 6:15.

A virtual Show & Tell presentation will start immediately thereafter, with the demonstration following. Members wishing to show their work in Show & Tell should email up to four photos, two each of two different projects, to Jeff Brody by 5 p.m. Monday, June 28. For details about photo files, check our monthly newsletter.

All members in good standing will receive an email announcement with the link to enter the Zoom meeting prior to June 30.
