Special Demo - David Ellsworth: Natural Edge Bowls

January 25, 2022

In conjunction with the Strait Turners group, OPCAAW is offering this special opportunity to interact and learn from a truly exceptional wood turner and woodturning teacher, David Ellsworth.

David is a founding member of the American Association of Woodturners. He began turning in high school in 1958, spent three years in the military and then eight years in college studying architecture, drawing and sculpture, receiving a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Colorado. He opened his first private woodturning studio in Boulder, Colo., in 1975 and began to develop a series of bent turning tools and the method of using them to turn thin walled hollow forms for which he is now known worldwide. His article describing his method was published in Fine Woodworking magazine in 1979.

In all, he has published more than 50 articles relating to the craft of woodturning and several books. He has operated and taught at the Ellsworth School of Woodturning since 1990. ......

He will be demonstrating how he makes natural edge bowls in this demonstration. David's bowls and hollow forms grace the permanent collections of 43 museums.

All 2021 and 2022 OPCAAW members will receive an invitation and link to the Zoom meeting. The demonstration begins at noon.

OPCAAW will host a second demonstration by David Ellsworth for our regular meeting March 30.
