Regular Meeting - Dale Larson: Turning and Drying Roughed Out Bowls

September 28, 2022

The September meeting of OPCAAW will feature a demonstration by Dale Larson, a founding member of the Cascade Woodturners in Portland, OR.

Dale has been turning wood for over 30 years. He primarily turns bowls from local hardwoods such as Pacific Madrone and Big Leaf Maple. His work is both functional and beautiful and much admired by collectors and wood workers alike. His bowls can be found in private collections all over the world.

Dale often demonstrates his bowl and sphere turning at AAW Symposiums in the USA and the Ripon Symposium in England. He also teaches and publishes articles in several woodworking and woodturning journals including The American Woodturner.

This demonstration focuses on creating bowl blanks from green timber and how to process and dry them to preserve the wood and avoid cracks.

Social hour will begin at 6 p.m., with the business meeting starting at 6:30.

There will be announcements, Show & Tell and the wood auction before the demonstration begins.

This will be a live demonstration.
