This class will teach how to turn a pen and bottle stopper plus a bottle stopper mandrel.

The morning session will include preparing the pen blanks, different designs to consider, turning the blank, finishing the blank and assembly of the pen. You will receive (2) slimline pen kits and blanks to build the pens. The blanks will have the tubes glued in as it is a messy and time consuming part of making pens. We will show how it is accomplished . You will have your choice of (2) blanks and pen kits to work on.

The club has pen mandrels, barrel trimmers and assembly tools.

The afternoon session will include manufacturing a bottle stopper mandrel and turning a bottle stopper. The mandrel that we make in class will be 1”-8tpi, if you have a 1-1/4”- 8 at home I'll have some we can exchange.

You will take home (2) pens, a bottle stopper and mandrel. Material costs for this class will be $15.00 included in signup fee.

Tim Larson and George Kromka will teach the use of a skew at the Kitsap Adventist School, 5088 NW Taylor Road, Bremerton WA, starting 9 am (8 am setup) and ending 4 pm, with an hour for lunch. Bring lunch, as there really isn't anywhere close enough to conveniently pick up a meal in a timely manner.

The cost is $50 for members ($80 for non-members), which includes materials.

Learn the basic cuts made by a skew.  This class will help you understand how common catches occur, and how to work towards eliminating catches.  The concepts and techniques learned here are applicable to many other tools (not just the skew).

Any questions? Feel free to email Tim Larson or George Kromka.

Enrollment is "first come, first served," and there are 6 student slots available. If you try to sign up and the class is full, please sign up anyway. That way we can contact you if there is a dropout, or, if we generate enough interest, we can schedule an additional class session.
