OPCAAW is conducting a skills class on beginning spindle turning. Club mentor Jim Leary will be teaching the class, which will be offered twice on Oct. 23, first class at 9 a.m. and a second class at 2 p.m.

The class will teach participants how to make a simple wood mallet.

Lathes, basic lathe tools and turning blanks will be provided as part of the class fees.

Five student slots are available for each session. Class attendees are responsible for bringing their own safety gear.

Cost of the class is $25 for club members and $50 for non-members. Non-members who sign up will receive their first year's membership to OPCAAW, a $30 value.

In place of the standard wood auction at our regular October membership meeting, OPCAAW will be having a special wood and tool sale this Saturday.

The sale offers wood from a variety of sources and tons of tools from the shops of members Tex Lewis, who died two years ago, and Jim Conway, who is moving to Texas.

You can expect a lot of variety, and good prices.
