    The Board of Directors of OPCAAW meets monthly three weeks prior to the regular membership meeting. This is your opportunity to find out how the organization works and to have a say in planning upcoming meetings and the direction of the club.

    Larry and George will instruct the class  on how to hold items on the lathe for safe turning.

    We will talk about 4 jaw scroll chucks, glue blocks, jam chucks, cole jaws, worm screws, drive centers, vacuum chuck, longsworth chuck and many others.

    The students will turn and thread a wooden face plate with a beal tap.

    If time permits, we will turn a small bowl and make a jam chuck to finish the bottom.

    Class: Spindle Turning Basics Instructor Jim Leary 1/28/2024


    January 28, 2024

    Our class for January is “Basic Spindle Turning” with OPCAAW Mentor Jim Leary.

    This class  will introduce proper use of the spindle roughing gouge, the spindle gouge, the parting tool and basic skew cuts. The class is aimed at beginning turners and those who have not previously turned spindles.

    The morning session will focus on rounding from a square, beads, coves, vee cuts and parting cuts. The afternoon will be project oriented with a project that includes the basic cuts learned in the morning session. This is a skill building class.

    There is a $10 materials fee for this class on top of the registration fee. Club members pay a $40 registration fee, for a total of $50. Non-members pay a total of $80. The extra $30 for non members applies to a calendar year membership in OPCAAW. Your membership assures that the club's insurance policy covers you during the class.

    Regular Meeting - Member Appreciation Meeting


    January 31, 2024

    The January meeting of OPCAAW will feature a dessert social (cake and beverage) and drawing for prizes and wood. This is our annual member appreciation meeting..

    Social hour will begin at 6 p.m., with the business meeting starting at 6:30.

    There will be announcements, A Display table for Show your work (no tell) and the party.  There will not be a wood auction.
