Meeting online via Zoom - Tod Raines: Bowl Turning -- Orientation and Techniques

    May 26, 2021

The regular monthly meeting of OPCAAW will feature a demonstration by Tod Raines, a woodturner based in Allen, Texas.

Tod's demonstration will explore different methods of holding blanks on the lathe for traditional or natural edge bowls. He will also show different tools used to make the cuts essential in turning bowls. He will demonstrate turning a bowl with an emphasis on form, grain orientation and visual appeal. The demonstration takes between 90 and 120 minutes.

Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Tod moved to Texas in 1997. He is an electrical engineer by training who worked many years in the telecom industry. Tod purchased his first lathe in 2002, took some classes and began turning. He started Woodturning Tool Store, an online source for turning tools and supplies, in 2017.

OPCAAW members can start signing on for our Zoom meeting as early as 5:30 to socialize. President Brad Stave will make club announcements starting at 6:15.

A virtual Show & Tell presentation will start immediately thereafter, with the demonstration following. Members wishing to show their work in Show & Tell should email up to four photos, two each of two different projects, to Jeff Brody by 5 p.m. Monday, May 24. For details about photo files, check our monthly newsletter.

All members in good standing will receive an email announcement with the link to enter the Zoom meeting prior to May 26.
